《What is the best way to travel?》

01、学习目标

① Identify the structure of the passage and comb detailed information about the four ways of travelling.

② Analyze and judge the four ways of travelling by compare and contrast.

③ Think critically by evaluating the best way to travel from different aspects.

④ Internalize and apply the knowledge about good points and bad points of ways of travelling by making the best choice.

02、教学重难点

① Students comb detailed information about the four ways of travelling and understand the use of the superlative forms of adjectives and adverbs.

② Students are able to apply the target language to retell and write.

教学方法:Activity-based teaching approach

04、教学过程

1、导入环节

1. Invite students to have a free talk.

① Which city do you want to visit?

② How will you go there?Why?

2. Present two pictures and ask students to brainstorm.

How can I travel from London to Amsterdam?

2、授课环节

Activity 1 Prediction

Ask students to predict the main idea based on the four pictures,title and subtitles.

①What is the passage about ?

②Where is the passage from?

Activity 2 Reading for gist and structure

1.Ask students to read quickly and check their prediction.

2.Ask students to divide the passage into 3 parts.

Activity 3 Reading for details

1.Ask students to read paragraph by paragraph and fill out the form.

2.Ask students to read Para.3 and answer.

3.Ask students to look at the sentences and number the four ways of travelling from the cheapest to the most expensive.

①A journey by train...but a lot more expensive.

②You can go by car and by ship...but also the most expensive.

③The third choice is by coach...usual the cheapest.

④Finally,you can fly...and the second cheapest.

4.Encourage students to think about the questions.

①What factors(因素)did the writer consider(考虑) when he chose the way to travel ?

②Are there any other factors that we should consider when we choose the way to travel?

③Did the writer tell us the best way? What do you think is the best choice?

Activity 4 Group work

1.Ask students to retell the passage according to the mind map.

2.Ask students to choose the best way for travelling : Three students who want to travel from London to Paris and give them some advice.

Student A: I like to enjoy the beautiful scenery(景色)on my way to travel.I don't have much money.

Student B: I can stay in Paris for only one day.I want to get there as early as possible.

Student C: I don't like to sit for a long time.I enjoy walking around and talking with others.

课堂总结:

通过本课的学习,使学生们了解了从阿姆斯特丹到伦敦的最佳出行方式。学生也从中学到能够批判性地思考事情,从不同的角度评估最好的旅行方式。

05、教学反思

本节课主要以完成各项活动展开。通过导入的free talk活动,自然地带领学生进入本单元的话题。授课环节中通过对文章大意进行预测,为阅读文章打下基础,再通过细读文章的3个活动,对文章内容有进一步的理解,在此基础上通过比较和对比培养学生的批判性思维。因为课堂时间有限,学生课堂上发言的机会不多,后期课堂上应该给予学生更多的发言机会。
