There is a great woman that guides and molds us carefully into the person we will one day become. A special woman that puts us first above anything or anyone. When I think of my own mother her touch, her fragrance and her sweet words inspired me to think through, and also to sometimes take calculated risks in my life.

今年的疫情，让人类更加紧密地团结在一起，而在这个特殊的时期，我们与母亲之间的距离更近了。她一直是我们生活中的英雄，她告诉我们要注意洗手和消毒，提醒我们要注意安全，保护自己，和人群保持距离。

The covid-19 pandemic and more especially the lock down in China and many countries around has brought mankind as a whole closer to each other and us even closer to mom; who has been our heroine throughout. There to sanitize our hands and surfaces and reminded us to be safe, protect ourselves and helped us through social distancing.

为了赞美可敬的母亲，缅怀那些在这次疫情中逝去的母亲，新华公学国际融合部的学生和老师开展了一系列的活动为我们的妈妈献上爱心。

In light of these honorable individuals and in the spirit of celebrating them and in remembrance of all the special moms who we lost during this time, we the students and teachers in IID departments held kinds of activities in honor of our hero; Mom…and in remembrance of those who lost their lives.

Our theme for the month of May is CARE; not only an IB PYP learner profile, but at Xinhua Academy we are compassionate, respectful and caring.

Class began with a compassionate story followed closely by the careful instructions on how to construct the hearts. The children folded their love and made colorful gifts for mom.

On Friday, May 8, the Xinhua Academy International Integration department Student Government held a special presentation about Mother’s Day, and our student government, under the advisement of president Olivia, got successfully.

Students began by giving a brief history of Mother’s Day, where we learned that Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more secular holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. This custom eventually faded in popularity before merging with the American Mother’s Day in the 1930s and 1940s.

Upon completion of this information to their audience, Amy from grade 7 and Kerry from grade 8 introduced an activity to the group to demonstrate what child-bearing is like for the women of the world. Names were drawn at random, and four lucky participants were attached via tape to giant yoga balls. Once paired with their ball, the competitors had to complete tasks such as sweeping and other tasks women would have a difficult time doing with the physical changes their body goes through while with child.

After many laughs and a round of applause, the men completed the task and returned to their seats. Dr. Kerri - Anne Nolan was asked to speak to students on behalf of all mothers, and invited the mothers present up to the front of the room. We were all able to see that our fellow colleagues and teachers: Sheena, Chasity, Vivian and Tina are all hard working mothers, dedicating a lot of time and effort to their students and school every day. Each mother gave us a few words of advice regarding Mother’s Day: Chasity telling students to remember to tell their mother’s thank you, and let them know you appreciate them for all they do, and Sheena giving a very heartfelt moment to remember that while she is a mother, she also has a mother to love and appreciate for all she does.

在这个特别的日子，我们感谢妈妈们的付出，祝所有的母亲节日快乐!

On this special day, we thank mothers for their efforts and wish all mothers a Happy mother's day!
